Anyway vs. anyways

What does anyway mean?

Anyway is an adverb which means regardless or in any case.

For example:

·      Even though she wasn’t invited, she went to the party anyway.

What does anyways mean?

Anyways is the informal version of anyway.

For example:

·      Anyways, I must leave now.

What’s the difference between anyway and anyways?

Both anyway and anyways have the same meaning of regardless or in any case, but anyways is more informal. It’s fine to use both in your writing but I recommend you tailor their usage to your characters’ speech patterns and personalities.

For example:

·      She hadn’t studied but knew the right answer anyway.

·      She hadn’t studied but knew the right answer anyways.
