Sample edit

A sample edit looks at the first 1,000 words of your novel and highlights 1-2 key areas to work on in the form of a short editorial report. While I can't comment on big-picture issues while looking at a small snippet of your novel, a sample edit can help you understand my editing style and the kind of feedback I provide on a scene level.

Sample edits are a complimentary service I provide as I understand it’s important for you to choose an editor who understands you and your vision for your novel.

Due to the number of requests I receive, I can only offer free personalised sample edits for writers who are seriously considering a developmental edit.

If you’re not ready for a developmental edit or you are looking at a different service like a manuscript evaluation or novel scan, I can offer a de-identified sample edit instead.

The de-identified sample edit is feedback taken from a previous novel I’ve edited, used with the author’s full permission. All names, locations and identifiable information have been changed, but the feedback remains the same.

To request a sample edit, please contact me and include the following information in your request:

  • A paragraph explaining the plot of your novel

  • What service you’re looking at

  • A little bit about yourself.
